We invite you to join us on a journey of Japanese Incense. In this 3 hour workshop, you will learn the history of Japanese incense, make your own and take multiple types of incense home with you. We will make this journey more delightful with sweets & tea from Matcha Next Door.
Content of the workshop
Introduction of History of Japanese incense; Explanation of the raw materials and smell.
Your own incense making journey in different steps:
- GRAIN INCENSE A mixture of resins and herbs, which you can burn in a small bowl.
- CONE INCENSE Making incense dough, consisting of resins and herbs with added essential organic oils, shaping it in cones.
- PRESSED INCENSE Making incense dough: We make 2 types, namely one that we will cut out of a piece of incense dough with shapes; and a type that we shape in small molds. You can choose 2 scents, from: Lavender, Yuzu, Rosegernium, Boswellia, Cedar and Patchouli.
- BOCHU – KOH We make a wonderful fragrance mixture from resins, spices and essential oils, for in a beautiful Japanese scented bag. You can hang it on your handbag, or in another place, such as in the hallway as a welcome, or next to your bed.
- ZUKOH This is a sacred mixture of incense herbs and spices, that you can use for a ceremony to purify yourself.
- INCENSE TRAIL Powdered incense is placed in shapes (path) on white ash and lit. The shapes are formed with a metal template.
- KOHDO CEREMONY Demonstration and explanation of the kohdo ceremony, including “listening to scent”: A special age-old tradition.
